MRI
During an MRI scan, very precise images of the body are taken using a strong magnetic field. This allows organs, inflammations and other changes to be easily recognized. Our modern 3 Tesla MRI delivers particularly clear images in 10-15 minutes.
Procedure
In magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the hydrogen molecules in the body are excited by a strong magnetic field, resulting in high-resolution cross-sectional images that precisely depict not only the anatomy but also inflammatory changes and other pathologies. With our new 3 Tesla MRI “Skyra” from Siemens, patients have access to a modern high-end device with particularly high image quality and shorter examination times. An examination usually takes 15 to 30 minutes, during which you will be given an alarm bell to communicate with the assistant; however, for optimum image quality it is important to remain still during this time.

Special examination of the prostate (multi-parametric evaluation, PIRADS)
For health insurance companies to cover the costs, a referral for a multiparametric MR of the prostate must be issued by a urologist. For SVS patients, authorization is required.
Special examination MR Enteroclysma
The MR enteroclysis is an MRI examination of the small intestine after oral administration of a special liquid for intestinal marking, which is mainly used in the diagnosis of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases.
- You should not eat anything 3 hours before the examination, but you are allowed to drink still water.
- Please avoid flatulent food the day before the examination.
- 1.5 hours before the examination, you will be given a special drink for intestinal marking at our diagnostic center.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
What do I need to consider during the examination?
For examinations of the upper abdomen (e.g. liver, pancreas, kidneys etc.) you should not eat anything for 2-3 hours before the examination.
During the examination, the doctor may inject you with contrast medium via a venous access, depending on the examination region and/or indication.
As the examination requires your written consent, we ask you to arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled appointment to fill out the consent form and a general questionnaire about your medical history.
Patients with prostheses, implants after operations, such as screws and plates, hearing aids, pacemakers, heart valves, stents (these are small metal tubes in vessels, usually coronary vessels) must report this before the MRI examination, as magnetic fields are used for imaging in the MRI. It is also important that you bring your implant passport to the examination if you have one.
Jewelry, hairpins, glasses, hearing aids and coins must be deposited in the changing room as far as possible.
Non-removable metal parts located in the body, such as metal splinters, and certain red dyes used for tattoos and permanent eyelid lines may contain iron oxide and therefore heat up or move during the examination and must therefore also be reported before the examination.
Will I be given contrast medium for every examination?
No, we decide during the examination whether we will administer a contrast agent or not, so it is possible that a doctor will access a vein during the examination and administer a contrast agent through it.
Can an MRI be carried out during pregnancy?
Pregnancy is not necessarily a contraindication to an MRI, but due to the lack of data, an examination is not performed in the first trimester of pregnancy. Please report any pregnancy. Contrast agents are not administered during pregnancy.
Claustrophobia (claustrophobia)
If you suffer from claustrophobia, please contact us by phone before your visit so that we can discuss possible measures together to make the examination easier for you.
